Water purification with bromine or chlorine? Our opinion: It's best not to use either! But that hasn't quite got around in society yet. So even a whirlpool or swim spa, or the water in it, must be disinfected for hygienic reasons. Time and again, a fundamentalist dispute of principle arises among old-fashioned pool owners: "Chlorine or bromine? Which is better?"

With bromine you avoid chloramines. This means: less stench. But chlorine is more stable in use, because simply the "harder stuff"! We at Spa Natural say: Avoid both! History of water care

As early as the 17th century, people tried their hand at chemical water purification.
Sir Francis Bacon tried to filter salt from seawater, but failed.
However, it was enough to spur the ambition of colleagues in his time and after his death.
The disinfection by chlorine then finally goes back to a certain John Snow.

Around 1905, public swimming pools worldwide were sterilized to curb emerging and existing diseases and epidemics.

Protective chlorination was banned in Germany in 1991. However, chlorination is of course still carried out come hell or high water. There are still far too many public swimming pools where chlorination is carried out thoughtlessly. Not only out of convenience or conviction. The necessary education is simply missing here. What applies to public baths naturally also applies to private use.
Chlorine is and remains a dangerous chemical club that harms health as well as the environment. You don't have to have studied chemistry to know that. You only have to look into the eyes of children when they have been in the swimming pool.
