Water change - how often?

Even if you conscientiously care for your spa and the water: Every now and then, a hot tub needs a water change. Regardless of the visual quality of the water, the walls and bottom should be cleaned of dirt deposits to eliminate any microorganisms such as bacteria and algae. How regularly you need to refill your spa depends primarily on the cleaning method.

Chemistry takes its toll

The old-fashioned water purification with chlorine or bromine has the consequence that should be changed at least every 3 months, because even the best treatment of the spa water can not prevent the formation of dissolved substances in the water. These include mainly salts such as chlorides and nitrates, which are formed from reactions of chlorine. Chlorides have a decomposing effect on metal parts, such as aluminum and stainless steel. But even in the best maintained pool, salts accumulate that cannot be removed chemically or by filtration. This is only possible by a complete water change. And this should be done at least four times a year.
